Being a child in rural Nepal is fraught with challenges. Kids are often abandoned by destitute parents who cannot afford to support them. Even kids with families will often drop out of school by the age of 8 to begin work to support themselves. Life isn’t much better in the cities, where orphanages are overcrowded, underfunded and understaffed. Children are often left to beg on the streets to feed themselves.

Bruce Keenan had the opportunity to visit an orphanage in Kathmandu in 1999. What he saw there inspired him to get involved in helping orphaned children in Nepal. The Himalayan Children’s Charity was created to give these children an opportunity to enjoy their childhoods and for quality education. HCC was incorporated and received its 501c3 certification in September 2000.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Himalayan Children's Charities is to provide education in a safe environment to orphaned and abandoned children in Nepal.
